Verizon and IBM Offer Data Backup
Verizon and IBM this week announced Managed Data Vault, a backup service the two companies refer to as a "cloud service."
What makes this different from any other large-scale backup service (e.g. from EMC, CommVault or Iron Mountain) is that it uses Verizon's private network to transfer data from a client location to an offsite data center.
The service is designed for enterprise users with large data footprints of 15 to 150 terabytes or more, according to Don DeMarco, IBM vice president of business continuity and resiliency services.
