Good point Benjamin, that conflict between innovation and experience on one side, and the bottom line on the other is something that is still getting worked out in a lot of organizations. But over the long term the bottom line is going to be increasingly dependent on innovation. Banks will have to restructure their organizations to foster better understanding between the business and innovation teams.

Agree with the article wholeheartedly. However, where does the P&L sit when a CDO enters an organization? As distribution of products and services for nearly every business shifts to the online/digital channel does P&L also need to shift?

With the growth of analytics and influence of technology on customer experience and marketing, the CDO really is becoming essential for companies that want to stay ahead. They have a tricky role - not only do they have to ensure their company is leveraging the most relevant new technologies, they have to do so without overturning the longstanding company culture.
