BB&T Corporation joins NACHA; Speakers announced for the fifth annual Trema World Forum in Monaco; JavaOne show to focus on the latest uses for Java technology.

BB&T Corporation has joined NACHA, the Electronic Payment Association. It is the third financial institution to join NACHA this year.

'NACHA is the most innovative and active payments association today in developing new electronic payments applications for financial institutions to offer their clients," said Marshall E. Tyner, senior vice president of BB&T. "Membership in NACHA provides BB&T with influence and opportunity as the payments systems of the future are being developed."

The goal of NACHA is to develop operating rules and business practices for the Automated Clearing House (ACH) Network, and for electronic payments in the areas of Internet commerce, electronic bill and invoice presentment and payment, financial electronic data interchange, international payments, electronic checks and electronic benefits transfer. It currently has 32 members consisting of 21 payment associations and 11 financial institutions.

Direct membership in NACHA for financial institutions became available this year after the group completed a reorganization in 2000.

Trema, a provider of strategic technology solutions and management consulting services to the financial industry, has announced the speaker lineup for its fifth annual Trema World Forum, to be held in Monaco from May 30 to 31.

These speakers will present on a variety of topics, including risk management, outsourcing of financial services, emerging technologies and network security, eFX, third generation asset management and global investment performance standards.

The latest advancements in Java technology will be the focus of JavaOne, Sun's 2001 Worldwide Java Developer Conference, to be held June 4 to 8 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.
