Steve ClementSenior Vice President and Director, Information Technology Strategic Initiatives Office Wachovia Steve Clement is a Senior Vice President and Director of Wachovia's Information Technology Strategic Initiatives Office. In his role, Clement is accountable for innovation, strategy and strategic planning, CIO metrics and reporting, and managing the operating model for Wachovia's Information Technology department. Prior to joining Wachovia, Clement served as the technology unit manager at U.S. Bancorp, director of Corporate Systems at Bank One Services Corporation, technology manager for Comerica, Inc., and senior risk audit manager for Ex-Cell-O Corporation. An active supporter of his church and local community campaigns such as United Way and the Arts & Science Council, he is an assistant leader and merit badge coordinator for a Boy Scout troop and a volunteer at the Greater Metro YMCA.
Jim EckenrodeBanking Research Fellow and Executive Lead, Financial Services Strategies TowerGroup Jim Eckenrode is Banking Research Fellow and Executive Lead for Financial Services Strategies and IT Investments at TowerGroup. As the Banking Research Fellow, Jim focuses his research and advisory activities on the major trends and directions in the global banking industry and, through that research, provides guidance and advice to senior-level banking and technology executives. Additionally, he directs TowerGroup's Financial Services Strategies and IT Investments service, with overall responsibility for TowerGroup's cross-industry strategic research and financial services technology spending analyses. Jim's areas of expertise, which he developed over 19 years in consumer banking and consulting, include technology strategic planning, bank delivery channels; customer relationship management; and core deposit and lending systems. According to Jim, "Today's increasingly global economy and culture are forcing FSIs around the world to adapt more and more to a common way of doing business. Markets are opening up, consumers are demanding more on a 24x7 basis, corporations are increasingly operating in multiple locations around the globe, all resulting in governmental actions that are forcing convergence and consolidation in this industry. The tricky part comes in making the sum of the parts truly a whole, with a single view of its customer base, offering a consistent level of service and a broad array of products across all channels that a client may choose to use." Before assuming his current role, Jim had been the Managing Director of Banking and Payments Research and also a senior member of TowerGroup's Consulting Services group. In those roles, he advised a large number of financial institutions and vendors, focusing on product and market strategies and competitive analyses. Before joining TowerGroup, Jim led strategy and operations consulting engagements for Global 500 financial institutions for the Financial Institutions Group at management consultancy A.T. Kearney, Inc. and held management positions in retail banking at BankBoston and Cambridge Savings Bank. Jim is quoted frequently by publications such as The Wall Street Journal, American Banker, Bank Systems & Technology, The Banker, and Bank Technology News. In addition to being a featured speaker at dozens of industry conferences, he has appeared on CNBC and National Public Radio. Jim received his M.B.A. from Georgetown University and a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Michigan.
Richard P. HarpSenior Vice President Director of Corporate Security, Corporate Security Division Huntington National Bank Richard Harp is Senior Vice President and Director of Corporate Security for Huntington National Bank headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. He is responsible for administering the security program for the financial institution, which has approximately 50 billion dollars in assets. He has served in this capacity for the last sixteen years. Prior to coming to Huntington, he served as Deputy Chief of Police at the Ohio State University and held several positions in public law enforcement as well as being employed with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice, a Master of Arts in Human Resource Administration and a Master of Science in Business and Organizational Security. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Columbus State University in Columbus, Ohio and Central Ohio Technical College in Newark, Ohio During his tenure he has served on several committees and board positions related to bank security and fraud investigations. In June of 2001, he received the "Special Leadership Award" for outstanding leadership in the development and implementation of the bank's security program by Huntington's executive management. Richard currently resides in Columbus, Ohio with his wife Ann.
Milton Santiago, Jr.Senior Vice President Electronic Banking Solutions ABN AMRO, LaSalle Bank Milton oversees the conceptualization and implementation of the entire Electronic Banking Products line for ABN AMRO and LaSalle Bank. His responsibilities include driving product development and management for client facing solutions and CRM initiatives for small, middle market and large corporate business for all of North America. Milton and his department focus on emerging technologies as they relate to Cash Management solutions including, software and browser-based technologies, portal and wireless initiatives and web development. He is also responsible for the ongoing technical support, training and installation of these platforms. Milton's most notable achievement was the development of the highly successful and award-winning CashPro online Treasury Management system, a web-based solution developed to meet the needs of small-sized and mid-sized organizations and corporations. In its 2004 Cash Management Monitor(TM), Phoenix-Hecht rated CashPro "A" for middle-market business Web an "A" for middle-market business and an "A+" for large corporations. For three consecutive years, CashPro ranked among the top three Internet applications for cash management service by Greenwich Associates. ABN AMRO was an InfoWorld 100 Award winner based on CashPro's multi-channel customer service capabilities, including its virtual agent self-service and agent-assisted service through email, chat, and web collaboration. Milton developed and is chairman of the CashPro Advisory Board. Established in 2004, the CashPro Advisory Board includes a select group of 15 clients of ABN AMRO and LaSalle Bank. This group provides valuable feedback and helps drive the direction for CashPro - sharing ideas for improving, modifying and extending existing services. Milton also represents the Bank as a founding member of the Trusted Communications Forum (TECF), a global, cross-industry consortium of industry leaders focused on efforts to eliminate phishing and spoofing attacks that lead to identity theft and brand distrust. Milton began his career with LaSalle Bank in 1987. He has more than 15 years of extensive banking experience, which includes training, product development and technology. He is a thought leader in the area of cash management and an innovative leader in the application of technology in cash management. Also, Milton is a frequent speaker at Association for Financial Professionals (AFP) conferences, TMA Chicago's Windy City Summit and leading industry user conferences. He earned his bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems from DeVry University in Chicago in1994 and he holds the designation of certified web master. Milton currently resides in the Chicago area with his wife, Nilda, and their two sons, Nathan and Nicholas. Timothy O'Brien Special Agent, Computer Crimes Squad Federal Bureau of Investigation, New York Office Special Agent Timothy O'Brien has been assigned to the FBI's Computer Crimes Squad in New York since May 2003. During his tenure on the squad, SA O'Brien has investigated cases involving criminal computer intrusions and intellectual property rights violations, including copyright and trademark counterfeiting. SA O'Brien holds the following certifications from the SANS Institute: Certified Incident Handler, Certified Intrusion Analyst, and Certified Security Essentials. Prior to joining the FBI in January 2003, SA O'Brien taught at both the secondary school and undergraduate levels.
Sateesh PrabakaranManaging Director Chief Architect The Bank of New York Mellon Sateesh Prabakaran is the Chief Architect for The Bank of New York Mellon, responsible for defining, developing and implementing application architectures by partnering with different lines of business. Mr. Prabakaran began his career as a Programmer at IBM labs in the Language Processing Group, working on creating commercial Source Code Converters. After IBM, he worked for Bell Labs' Advance Programming Research, focusing on extending the template features of C++. Mr. Prabakaran then moved on to Lehman Brothers a move that helped him transition from fundamental research into applications development. At Lehman, he worked on various Fixed Income applications. When he left Lehman, he was responsible for the application architecture for its Global Fixed Income Technology platform. Prior to joining The Bank of New York, Mr. Prabakaran served as the Chief Architect for Standard and Poor's where he was responsible for defining and implementing application strategy for their global business products in the Credit Rating and Equity markets.
Dan ThorpeSenior Vice President and Group Leader, Statistics and Modeling Wachovia Daniel Thorpe is a Senior Vice President at Wachovia and currently serves as the Director of Statistics and Modeling for the Insight and Innovation division. Insight and Innovation is a recognized Center of Excellence that is accountable for Wachovia's innovation efforts and offers rigorous analytical and marketing research around customer insight, enabling the development of strategies to acquire, enhance and deepen, and retain customer relationships for Wachovia. Dr. Thorpe has a B.S. in chemical engineering and an M.S. and Ph.D. in statistics, all from the University of Minnesota, where his research and focus was in industrial statistics (design of experiments) and inference in small sample sizes. Upon finishing his Ph.D., he took a job with W.L. Gore and Associates, where his areas of contribution varied across product development, employee engagement, and the financial modeling and forecasting of product demand. During this time, he frequently gave presentations and wrote papers on how the statistical community can more effectively partner and collaborate with its business peers. When joining Wachovia, Dr. Thorpe's focus turned entirely to generating customer insight from the huge amounts of data and information Wachovia collects. He and his team partner with Wachovia's lines of business in modeling customer behavior from targeted marketing campaigns to understand the value of customer loyalty. He also was the project lead on Wachovia's Innovation team - whose charter was to understand what innovation is at Wachovia. Currently he is driving Wachovia's Marketing ROI modeling efforts, where he is partnering with Wachovia's Corporate Marketing team. This effort has led to Wachovia winning the 2006 Pepper's and Roger's Impact Award in Customer Strategy, and Dr. Thorpe personally receiving a 1 to 1 Customer Champion Award, which recognizes executives who evangelize the customer cause.
Maria Bruno-BritzSenior Editor Bank Systems & Technology As senior editor for Bank Systems & Technology, Maria is responsible for writing major features and news pieces on a wide array of banking technology topics, from payments to IT budgeting. She is also the editor of BS&T's weekly online newsletter. Maria has been with the magazine since April 2005. Previously she was editor-in-chief of a small, regional business newspaper based in central Pennsylvania. Prior to that, she held the position of managing editor with another banking technology publication for 2 years. In addition to her banking experience, Maria has also written for accounting and insurance industry magazines.
Katherine BurgerEditorial Director Bank Systems & Technology Katherine Burger is Editorial Director of Bank Systems & Technology and Insurance & Technology, members of the Business Technology Group of CMP Technology. She assumed leadership of Bank Systems & Technology in 2003 and of Insurance & Technology in 1991.
