Chase and British Airways Release EMV Visa Card

The companies are offering a co-branded British Airways Visa card that features EMV chip-with-signature technology.

Chase Card Services, a division of JPMorgan Chase, has partnered with British Airways to release an EMV-enabled British Airways Visa Card. The new card features the chip-with-signature version of the EMV standard and has both an encrypted microchip and a traditional magnetic stripe so that it can be used in Europe, Canada, the United States and other regions.

The card is the third of Chase's EMV offerings. It does not charge for foreign transaction fees and delivers up to three percent savings on international purchase. Cardholders earn 2.5 Avios, the new British Airways Executive Club currency, for every $1 spent on British Airways purchases and 1.25 Avios for every $1 spent on other purchases.

"The addition of EMV chip-with-signature to the British Airways Visa Card offers cardmembers a higher level of convenience," said Naney Pandit, general manager of Chase Card Services in a news release. "Since most of our cardmembers frequently travel abroad, we want to provide them with benefits that make them feel right at home, no matter where they are. Cardmembers can now use the British Airways Card at any chip-enabled, point-of-sale device, such as train ticket kiosk, restaurant or gas station."
