Barclaycard US, the American payments arm of London-based Barclays, signed a co-branded deal with recycling reward program provider Recycle Bank. The new Gconomy Visa card will reward Recycle Bank members with points for participating in its nationwide recycling program.
With The Gconomy Visa Card, card members earn 1.5 RecycleBank Points for every dollar spent with participating local and national RecycleBank Reward Partners and one point for every dollar spent on all other purchases. A portion of every purchase made on the card will be donated to the RecycleBank Green Schools Program, helping local school children and teachers fund their environmental initiatives while building awareness of our impact on the planet, noted a press release.
Recycle Bank members put materials in special bar-coded bins and the trucks weigh them at curbside on pick up. The weight converts to points that get applied to the members' accounts. Points that can be redeemed for rewards including gift cards, entertainment, groceries, travel, and products. RecycleBank has thousands of Reward Partners, including national and local brands in hundreds of cities across 22 states and the UK.
"We're thrilled to partner with RecycleBank and be an extension of this ground-breaking rewards program," said Lloyd M. Wirshba, CEO, Barclaycard US, in a statement. "Both businesses value being good citizens of the communities in which they live and work. At Barclaycard US, we're proud of what our colleagues have done to make our work environment more environmentally friendly."
