Brief Learning Curve

The first phase of deployment began in early 2006. Implementation of the software lasted less than half a day, and the learning curve for Itemfield's systems also was brief, Kornberg relates. Itemfield trained Natexis' IT administrators on how to set up the environment, and then worked with the developers on how to use the ContentMaster tool, he says. The final phase of the integration, including messaging, is scheduled for Q3 2006.

Itemfield's ContentMaster works seamlessly with Informatica's ETL tool, according to Kornberg. "It fit so well that it was surprising that it was developed independently," he notes. The combination enables Natexis to access and transform both unstructured data and semi-structured data into SWIFT format, according to Informatica.

Natexis now has a SWIFT environment that is always current, Kornberg stresses. Benefits include improved data visibility and integrity using a metadata-driven data integration architecture; improved transaction visibility, analysis and management across multiple systems; enhanced in-house control of maintenance and troubleshooting; centrally managed message mapping and transformations; and real-time exception management for the detection and repair of errors, he adds. But perhaps the greatest benefit, Kornberg continues, is that the bank was able to greatly reduce the time and cost of SWIFT messaging development, implementation and ongoing maintenance with a product that it also can leverage for other data integration tasks.
