Wells Fargo Launching Personalized ATMs

The San Francisco-based bank is introducing a new interface on its ATMs that it says will offer customers a customizable experience.

Wells Fargo announced this week it is rolling out a new interface for its ATMs that the bank says will deliver an innovative and personalized experience for its customers.

In a video posted in Youtube the bank touts the features of the new ATMS, which include customized screens based on customer preferences and "favorites" that appear highlighted on the screen based on each customer's ATM usage.

The bank is also introducing a new tool called "ATM Cash Tracker," which it claims is a first of its kind in the industry. The feature allows customers to visually track their monthly Wells Fargo ATM withdrawals and will appear automatically on the main screen. This tool also allows customers to set a monthly withdrawal target and view details about how much they withdrew the prior month and their average over the past 12 months.

The new interface has already been introduced on more than 500 machines across several states, the bank said, and will make its way onto all 12,000 Wells Fargo ATMs by May.

If your bank's ATM software puts you to sleep, you need to see what Wells Fargo is providing. The banking giant's ATM Cash Tracker system tests an ATM customer's previous transaction history and offers the consumer with individualized banking choices and marketing. Wells Fargo is banking on the sleek brand new design being a big consumer draw.

I'm not sure the ATM is where I would want to review and track my ATM activity...while folks may be waiting behind me. The PFM tools proposed would be more conveniently accessed through other channels; mobile, tablet, etc...

Jonathan, I agree. I definitely would like the option of seeing my withdrawal history, especially one over the last 12 months, so that it can help me decide whether I am spending too much during a particular time. It would also be helpful to have the option of setting a withdrawal limit for yourself as a way of managing your finances. Forcing customers to go to the bank to make a withdrawal (when they've opted to place restrictions on themselves) may help some of them better manage their finances.

The cash tracker tool sounds like a step towards providing some financial management capabilities for customers with the ATM. I wonder if they're thinking about eventually expanding the tool to provide more account history or information such as deposits and other expenses. Customers might like the idea of being able to check out that information whenever they go to the ATM - or at least having the option to do so.
